Mary Poppins Information

Mary Poppins is at the Prince Edward Theatre. Mary Poppins tickets are available on London Theatre now.

The Mary Poppins musical is based on the much-loved children's books by P. L. Travers and the 1964 Disney film of the same name. Julian Fellowes' book blends the original stories with the acclaimed film to create a new and iconic stage adventure. Mary Poppins features music and lyrics by the Sherman Brothers, with additional music and lyrics by George Stiles and Anthony Drewe.

The original production was directed by Richard Eyre along with co-direction and choreography by Matthew Bourne and Stephen Mear. The production had an out of town tryout in Bristol before opening in the West End in December 2004 at the Prince Edward Theatre, making it the only Disney musical to premiere in the UK. The original cast featured Laura Michelle Kelly in the role of Mary Poppins for which she went on to win the 2005 Olivier Award for Best Actress in a musical.

Mary Poppins returned to the Prince Edward Theatre in October 2019 starring West End favourites Zizi Strallen and Charlie Stemp.

A sequel to the original Mary Poppins film was released in December 2018. Mary Poppins Returns sees Poppins return to the Banks household following a family tragedy. With a 54 year gap between the original film and this sequel, it is the longest gap between live-action film sequels in history.
