Big The Musical Information

A new production of the 1996 Broadway musical Big, based on the popular 1988 film starring Tom Hanks, is now open in London's West End at the Dominion Theatre. The musical has the same storyline as the film, which sees a young boy wish he could be grown up, and suddenly wakes up in an adult's body, having to navigate the difficulties and realities of adulthood. Tickets for Big the Musical are now on sale.

The production stars Jay McGuiness, known as a singer in The Wanted and Strictly Come Dancing contestant, lead the cast as Josh Baskin (the role made famous by Hanks) alongside Girls Aloud singer Kimberley Walsh, Wendi Peters and Matthew Kelly.

Big the Musical, which opened in the West End on 19th September, features music by David Shire and lyrics by Richard Maltby, Jr. After opening on Broadway in 1996 in a large and well-documented production directed by Mike Ockrent with choreography by Susan Stroman, it ran for just 193 performances at the Shubert Theatre and was nominated for five Tony Awards.

The musical got its UK premiere in Plymouth in 2016, also starring McGuiness, and after touring to Dublin, proved to be a success, announcing a West End transfer shortly after. Directed and choreographed by Morgan Young, the production includes scenes from the film, including the iconic giant piano dance in the toy store.
