See the world premiere of the 101 Dalmatians musical in London in summer 2022. 101 Dalmatians tickets will be available on London Theatre soon.
You may know the 101 Dalmatians story after watching the Disney animated film. However, this 101 Dalmatians production isn’t affiliated with Disney. Instead, it’s closely connected to Dodie Smith’s 1956 children’s novel of the same name. During the musical, fashionista Cruella de Vil wants to add a statement piece to her wardrobe — a fur coat made out of Dalmatians. She goes around stealing London puppies for her fur, but getting her paws on Dalmatians proves tricky. Dalmatians Pongo, Perdi and the other dogs in the litter must save themselves before they’re flaunted around the London streets. In the end, Pongo and Perdi rescue 84 Dalmatians, bringing the total Dalmatians rescued to 101.
There’s a puppetry renaissance in London at the moment: the Olivier Awards honoured Life of Pi’s seven actors who play the Tiger. 101 Dalmatians will also use puppets to bring the canine characters to life. Toby Olié creates the puppets and directs the musical. Sadly, you won’t see 101 live dalmatians onstage. But you'll see a thrilling, family-friendly musical in London's summer sun.
101 Dalmatians was first scheduled to open at Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre in 2020, however the pandemic postponed plans in 2020 and 2021. Now, two years later, 101 Dalmatians London performances are in the open air this summer. Each human year is approximately five years for a dog though, so 101 Dalmatians is still opening in roughly the same time period.
Johnny McKnight pens the 101 Dalmatians musical and Douglas Hodge provides original msuic. The Olivier-winning actor Douglas Hodge is best known for starring in La Cage Aux Folles.
The 2022 Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre seasons include Legally Blonde and Antigone.
