Young Frankenstein Information
Mel Brooks' Young Frankenstein, the new comedy musical based on the Oscar-nominated smash hit movie opened in the West End on Thursday 28 September at the Garrick Theatre. Following a pre-West End tryout at the Theatre Royal Newcastle from Saturday 26 August to Saturday 9 September, Young Frankenstein arrived in London's West End where it will include new dialogue and songs written by Brooks following the original Broadway production.
Young Frankenstein is a musical by Mel Brooks based on his 1974 film of the same name which starred and was co-written by the late Gene Wilder. The book of the musical has been written by Brooks and Thomas Meehan who previously collaborated on the internationally successful musical adaptation of The Producers. Young Frankenstein originally opened on stage in New York in November 2007 with a cast that included Tony Award winners Roger Bart, Sutton Foster, Andrea Martin and Shuler Hensley and Emmy Award winner Megan Mullally. The production set records for ticket prices on Broadway and ran for 14 months to January 2009.
Young Frankenstein the musical follows the plot of the film which itself is a parody of Hollywood horror films from the 1930s. The infamous Victor Frankenstein's grandson, Frederick, inherits the family estate after his Grandfather's passing. With his trusty sidekick Igor and his beautiful lab assistant Inga by his side, Frederick takes on the family business and brings a creature to life that will rival his grandfather's creations. The monster escapes from the Transylvania manor and the usual Mel Brooks style hilarity ensues.
Young Frankenstein, the wickedly inspired re-imagining of the Mary Shelley classic, sees Frederick Frankenstein, an esteemed New York brain surgeon and professor, inherit a castle and laboratory in Transylvania from his deranged genius grandfather,Victor Von Frankenstein. He now faces a dilemma - does he continue to run from his family’s tortured past or does he stay in Transylvania to carry on his grandfather’s mad experiments reanimating the dead and, in the process, fall in love with his sexy lab assistant Inga?
