The King's Head Theatre was founded in 1970, with Dan Crawford serving as artistic director for 35 years. Mr Cinders, starring Joanna Lumley opened at the off-West End venue, with other acclaimed productions including Wonderful Town and Tom Stoppard's Artist Descending a Staircase

In 2016, over 43,000 theatregoers attended a show at King's Head Theatre. In 2019, the King’s Head Theatre’s production of Kevin Elyot’s Coming Clean transferred to Trafalgar Studios Two.
