Formerly called Oval House Theatre, the venue closed in 2020 and moved to Brixton. The venue is now called the Brixton House Theatre. The Ovalhouse opened in the 1930s as a pioneer fringe theatre. During the sixties and seventies, the Ovalhouse gained notoriety as a venue for LGBT+ theatre, as well as developing new Black and Asian writing.
Notable artists who began their careers at Ovalhouse include Pierce Brosnan, Stella Duffy, Tamsin Greig and Salman Rushdie.
