Roger Bart On Stage - Theatre Credits, Bio and Tickets

Roger Bart Headshot

Born in Norwalk, Connecticut in 1962, Roger Bart is both a Tony Award-winning actor and a film and television star. The Hercules and The Producers star makes his West End debut in Back to the Future as Dr Emmett Brown.

After finishing high school, Bart attended Rutgers University, graduating with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in 1985. Two years later, Bart then made his Broadway debut in Big River, taking over the role of Tom Sawyer. A decade later, Bart then returned to Broadway, starring in King David and Triumph of Love. His breakout Broadway role came in 1999, cast as Snoopy in You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown and winning a Drama Desk Award.

In 2001, Brown originated the role of Carmen Ghia in the 15-time Tony-nominated musical The Producers, starring alongside Nathan Lane and Matthew Broderick. For the role of Carmen Ghia, Brown was nominated for a Tony for Best Featured Actor in a Musical, up against fellow co-stars Gary Beach and Brad Oscar. Later in the run, Brown took over the role of Leo Bloom, playing his final stage performance of The Producers in 2004. He never strayed too far from The Producers though, playing Carmen Ghia in the 2005 film remake of The Producers.

Following The Producers, Brown starred in the Stephen Sondheim musical The Frogs. But he’d star in another Broadway hit, Young Frankenstein, originating the lead role and starring alongside Megan Mullally and Sutton Foster. Bart’s last Broadway credit was Disaster! in 2016, which is a jukebox musical created by Seth Rudetsky.

Bart doesn’t just sing in musicals though. He provided the singing voice for teenage Hercules in Hercules, singing “Go The Distance”, as well as singing “A World Without Fences” in in Lady and the Tramp II: Scamp’s Adventure for the titular character. He has also starred in television shows including an SAG Award-nominated turn in Desperate Housewives, as well as The Lost Room Revenge, Episodes and A Series of Unfortunate Events.

After decades on Broadway, Bart made his West End debut in 2021, cast as Dr. Emmett Brown in Back to the Future. Read our interview with Roger Bart, where he spoke about reimagining an iconic film character for the stage.
