From The Other Palace to the Theatre Royal Haymarket and back again, Heathers shows no sign of slowing down. Heathers gets a homecoming at The Other Palace, reopening the London venue. Heathers tickets are available on London Theatre now.
Heathers is a musical that follows Veronica Sawyer, a high school “nobody” that dreams of becoming popular. Her call is finally answered when she’s accepted into the ‘Heathers’ clique, sitting at the top of the high school social pyramid.
When Veronica attracts the attention of mysterious teen rebel Jason Dean, or JD for short, she’s lovestruck. But, as she begins to behave in order to fit in with the crowd, can Veronica remain true to herself. Shocking actions and testimonies await in Heathers, where it’s murder being a somebody.
The Heathers musical is based on the 1989 film of the same name, starring Winona Ryder and Christian Slater. The musical adaptation of Heathers features a book, music and lyrics by Kevin Murphy and Laurence O’Keefe, with songs including “Big Fun”, “Dead Girl Walking” and “Seventeen.” For the 2018 production in London, a new song was written for Heathers. “I Say No” debuted in London, and is sung by Veronica Sawyer.
Heathers first entertained West End theatregoers at The Other Palace in 2018, selling 19,000 tickets and becoming the best-selling show of all time at the London venue. Immediately, Heathers transferred to the Theatre Royal Haymarket, starring West End sensation Carrie Hope Fletcher as Veronica Sawyer. Jamie Muscato played JD, with Sophie Isaacs, T'Shaan Williams and Jodie Steele as the three Heathers.
Heathers returned to the Haymarket in summer 2021 with a new cast. Christina Bennington led the company as Veronica Sawyer, joined by Jordan Luke Gage as JD.
In a review of Heathers for London Theatre, "Heathers is a musical for the college kids, they’re the ones who are going to see themselves in it, that will be singing these belting songs with their friends. I laughed, witnessed some top-class performances, and woke up singing the songs. How very.”
The Heathers London revival at The Other Palace marks the reopening of the London venue. The Other Palace is now owned by theatre producer Bill Kenwright. He is joined by Paul Taylor-Mills as the venue’s artistic director.
