Dirty Dancing - The Classic Story on Stage Information

Nobody puts Dirty Dancing in the corner anymore! See Dirty Dancing return to the West End in 2022, playing at the Dominion Theatre for just 10 weeks. Dirty Dancing tickets are available on London Theatre now.

If you’ve seen the Dirty Dancing film, you’ll be familiar with the Dirty Dancing musical story. Set in the summer of 1963, 17-year-old Frances ‘Baby’ Houseman heads on a family holiday to New York’s Catskill Mountains. She’s unenthused by the resort activities on offer, but her interest is piqued when she lays eyes on Johnny Castle, the resort dance instructor. Swept up in a holiday romance, Frances and Johnny fall for one another, culminating in the best summer of their lives.

Released in 1978, Dirty Dancing will go down in history as one of the greatest musical films of all time. But the initial idea for Dirty Dancing was born from cut scenes in a previous film. Writer Eleanor Bergstein was inspired to create Dirty Dancing after her 1980 film — It's My Turn — had erotic scenes cut in production. Thankfully, there’s plenty of sizzling action throughout Dirty Dancing, including the watermelon scene and that lift.

The Dirty Dancing musical will have you dancing in the aisles too! There’s 35 songs in Dirty Dancing, including songs from the Dirty Dancing film like “She’s Like the Wind,” and “Do You Love Me?”, as well as original songs written for the stage. And yes, the Grammy-winning track “(I’ve Had) The Time of My Life” gets its West End moment too. Secure your visit to Kellerman's now to see Dirty Dancing in London.

Nobody puts Dirty Dancing in a corner — at least not for long. Judging by the hysterical delight of its opening night audience, it'll be a very happy homecoming. To its credit, this Dirty Dancing — also scripted by the film's creator Eleanor Bergstein — thoroughly understands its...
