Sister Act: The Musical Information

Sister Act is at the Eventim Apollo. Sister Act tickets are available on London Theatre now.

The Sister Act musical follows Deloris Van Cartier, a lounge singer placed on a witness protection programme which sees her forced to join a convent. The film was adapted for the stage with music by Alan Menken in 2012, which features songs such as “Take Me To Heaven”, “How I Got the Calling”, “Raise Your Voice” and “Spread the Love Around”.

Sister Act premiered at the London Palladium in 2009, produced by Stage Entertainment and Whoopi Goldberg, to critical acclaim. It was nominated for four Olivier Awards, including Best New Musical. Towards the end of the London Palladium run, Whoopi Goldberg joined the West End cast for a limited number of special performances in August and October 2010. Sister Act then transferred to Broadway's Broadway Theatre, where it starred Patina Miller. Directed by Jerry Zaks, the show was nominated for five Tony Awards in 2011.

Since closing in the West End in 2010, the show has toured the UK twice. In 2011, the tour starred Cynthia Erivo as Deloris van Cartier and in 2016, Alexandra Burke starred in a production directed and choreographed by Craig Revel Horwood.

Deloris van Cartier is a Reno lounge singer who witnesses her mobster boyfriend commit a murder, forcing her into witness protection. She's placed in a convent in California, in the hope she will adapt to the quiet lives of the nuns and stay out of trouble. The nuns assign her to the choir, where she naturally transforms them into a soulful gospel group and helps them find their voice.
