A building has been on the site of the Almeida Theatre since 1837, which began life as a lecture hall and a collection of reading rooms. Over a century of transformations, the Almeida Theatre finally opened in 1980, and has been listed as a Grade II building by English Heritage.

The Almeida Theatre aims to propel the next generation of British theatre creatives to stardom, and it's doing just that. World premieres often take place at the Almeida Theatre, including American Psycho and King Charles III. It's also been home to plenty of adapted plays too, reinvigorating centuries old plays with a newer lease of life. Plays at the Almeida Theatre regularly transfer to the West End too, including The Doctor starring Juliet Stevenson and Summer and Smoke with Patsy Ferran.
